HomeCare Alliance of Maine Names David Austin, MD, Volunteer of the Year

David Austin, a family physician at Lovejoy Health Center and Medical Director of HealthReach Hospice in Waterville for the past 10 years, was named Volunteer of the Year by the HomeCare Alliance of Maine. Dr. Austin was recognized for his role as a key member of the hospice interdisciplinary team which meets biweekly to make sure patients are getting the best possible care. Dr. Austin has always refused compensation for his clinical expertise and guidance, even though hospice team meetings are held during the day when he could be seeing patients. He has developed a wealth of knowledge about end of life care, and is an excellent resource for staff. Our patients are fortunate to receive care from such compassionate and committed individuals who, like David Austin, represent the best of volunteer spirit.
